I came across this really useful but hidden command today. With your mouse over a word press Apple+Control+d and the dictionary pops out. It only works with cocoa applications but still very useful. Some examples of cocoa applications that it works in are Textmate, safari, Mail, Adium and Skype.

It’s also configurable through Dictionary’s preferences – you can chose to have a little overlay as pictured (that’s what I use) or open up the full Dictionary app.
Cool find. This would be great if it worked with all text based apps though.
Does anyone know if additional dictionaries are available (definitions in spanish, translators, etc.)??
brilliant find.. another reason to love my mac. as if i needed one.
