Tom reminded me today about this PDA from Apple (back in 1993 to 1998). If you think the iPhone is cool today – think how cool this was back in the day.

What’s even more amazing is that there are still many active developers for the platform.
I bought one off ebay for not a lot of cash, it’s old school but still usable.
Thats really cool. I would have wanted to get one for meetings but I just got a little mic for my iPod so am using that during meetings
Yeah… the Newton rocked. The best bit was when you selected an item in a to do list, like “phone back Gemma”, and clicked the assist button and low and behold it called up Gemma’s number! It even dialled the number for you!
Amazing tech… way ahead of its time!
yep! i thought of the newton almost immediately after the iphone was announced. i had a messagepad 2100 and loved it. i also noticed that the screen resolution of the iphone is the same as the mp 2100 (320 x 480)! same in terms of pixels, that is, not dpi or colour depth
i’d love to see a newton emulator on the iphone
Oh I so totally loved the Newton! I only never could afford one so I went for the Palm instead in 1997. I wonder if Apple is going to implement some of the Newton technology into the iPhone. The “Assist” feature would a great thing to start with.
