This was the first un-conference that I have attended and I hope that it will not be the last. The idea behind BarCamp is a bit nervy for some (read as me) as you all have to present or hold a discussion with the general idea of sharing your knowledge. Normally, when you present, you have an idea about the knowledge and experience of the audience but this time I had no idea. It did not help that I was quite outnumbered by people who are anti-flash. I changed my talk quite a few times as I spoke to more people and heard the level of knowledge and opinions. I ended up chatting about Flash’s strengths in accessibility, demoing an audio game that I had built, and showing the J K Rowling site built by a company called Lightmaker that has been approved by the RNIB. It did turn out to be a very chilled discussion and everyone was open to hearing new ideas about Flash and discussing the possibilities. I was so happy to see such great feedback from Mike Davies and disappointed that I missed his talk.
On the whole I have found to be the most amazing part of this experience is that people have been open to listening, sharing, talking and geeking together. I thank everyone for sharing, chatting and humouring my knowledge gaps as I have learnt so much, had quite a few of my thoughts challenged and even changed my views on a few things.

Great to see you at barcamp, and thanks for the presentations. Working as an accessibility consultant in the past and being stuck with guidelines like “Flash 5 only” I was always a bit vary about the accessibility side of flash but seeing your presentation made me aware of a lot of things that do not seem to be that common use/knowledge yet.
I also very much enjoyed the exchange with you and Aral and the ideas of how the WaSP taskforces can make people more aware of the advances in Flash. The future is orange, err interesting.
Hi Niqui!
It was nice meeting you, and I really enjoyed your sessions and expertise. It was good to have a couple of people there really promoting flash in a good way (accessibly!). Aral and yourself are definitely good Flash PR!
It was pretty good, I’ve never been to a conference like it. I actually came away excited about programming and stuff for the first time in ages (that’s starting to fade now I’m back in work)
Hi Niqui, great to meet you and talk about accessible Flash – I was very surprised and impressed with the ideas and thoughts I’ve heard so far. Here’s hoping that accessible Flash does make serious inroads in the Flash community.
Are you going to d-construct on Friday?
Mike
